Buying an e-commerce business

An e-commerce sale might include the store, domain, brand, inventory, customer records, supplier relationships and, where the platform allows it, advertising accounts. Some platform accounts cannot be transferred.

Inventory value and the business’s earnings are different numbers. A listing should say whether stock is included in the asking price.

Customer concentration matters: a store that depends on one product, one supplier or one advertising channel is a different proposition from a diversified one. Read the seller’s own description rather than assuming.
